Lafiya Nigeria New Year Update

Dear Lafiya Nigeria Community,

At our team, we wish you a very happy new year. We hope you had time to rest and recharge.

We want to share with you a few exciting updates from the past month:

1) Impact publication:

Our Founder's Associate Yasmin from the past summer and Klau together co-authored a piece for London-based think tank the Global Policy Institute. You can find it here. We are very proud of this thoughtful piece examining the family planning landscape in Nigeria and solutions needed to bring forth positive change.

2) Our Advisors:

We are incredibly proud to have kicked off our first formal advisory meeting over the winter break. Chairing our board is ex-Director of Reproductive Health at the Federal Ministry of Health, Dr. Kayode Afolabi. Medical doctor by training, Dr. Afolabi's career took him from practicing physician to the Commissioner of Health in Oyo State, the Head of Child Health at the Federal Ministry of Health, before taking the mantle in his previous role for the past 8 years.

Amongst our advisors we count Patrick Stadler, who co-founded and led New Incentives, an evidence-driven non-profit that to date has served more than 1 million infants in Nigeria; Mu'azu Muhammad, Columbia MPA candidate and Nigerian social entrepreneur with more than 10 years of experience working on family planning and global health in Sokoto Nigeria; Alex Catalan-Flores, Head of Operations for Charity Entrepreneurship, with past experience in development projects in Ethiopia, India, and Australia; and Sophie Gulliver, who works in monitoring and evaluation for Universal Health Coverage at the Centre of Global Development, previously she worked with UNICEF and Care Australia in a range of Global Health projects across Africa.

We are confident to bring Lafiya Nigeria to new heights of impact with their support.

3) Winter Internship:

This past week we just wrapped up our inaugural winter internship, in conjunction with the Crankstart Scholarship and the University of Oxford. Our interns, Faye Song, Anita Okunde, and Astrid Poll were able to contribute to a range of tasks across fundraising, communications, operations, and research. You will soon be seeing some of their work in action. We attach a picture of one of our working calls here.

We are currently preparing for scaling up our operations across states later this month, stay tuned! Big year ahead for Lafiya Nigeria and we are happy to have you be with us on this journey. As always, if you would like to support us at www.lafiyagnigeria.org/donate , we would be grateful!

Best Wishes

Jefferson and Klau
